What Are the Best Florida Bathroom Design Trends?

Ahhh… The sanctuary is the bathroom space! A personal space for relaxation, bathing, prepping, and everything in between. Shouldn’t this space be appealing and provide that zen feeling you deserve? Of course!

Bathroom trends seem to have some longevity – and they fall right in sync with most renovations. Florida homeowners rightfully demand a reputable contractor to take care of the planning and implementation.

Coast 2 Coast Construction understands and envisions that dream space with you. Check out this blog on bathroom design trends, then be sure to contact us to plan your spa-like bathroom design today.

Breaking up the Space

On major renovations, your contractor may have to break a wall along one of the adjoining rooms to enlarge your bathroom if that’s your desire. Or, work with the space you already have by reconfiguring your design, providing you with enough storage space and functionality. Let’s look at some trending bathroom factors:

Counters and Sinks

For example, for the main bedroom en suite, you want double vanities. Measure the counter space you want to be allotted for double vanities—it could be all on one counter slab or break up the sink spaces into opposite sides of the bathroom if space permits.

The materials used for bathroom counters are trending in marble, granite, and quartz–similar to kitchens. While there are plenty of countertop materials that are beautiful, many homeowners simply feel that there is no material as beautiful and as timeless as marble. With numerous colors and styles available, many of which include elegant veining, it is surely hard to match the beauty of marble countertops.

Granite is not only durable, but it’s stain, heat, and scratch resistant, so if you have a lot of bathroom get-ready heat tools, this material will stand up on its own. Granite has an endless array of colors and styles to choose from, although trending tones and colors are on the bright white or other lighter tones.

Basins are installed under your countertop slab for a seamless look. Guest bathrooms can be more of a showy space and can include more color in both shower tiles as well as different wall textures such as coastal wallpaper patterns or even light and bright shiplap panels on a feature wall. Finalize the bolder look by adding a clear or crystal turquoise bowl bath sink that will add visual interest for guests.

Cabinet Storage

With bathroom cabinets, it’s all a matter of preference. Trends tend to learn toward sleek modern and minimalist designs. However, think of your needed storage space first and foremost, then create a design that implements functionality with style.

Instead of white cabinets, try navy blue to contrast with the white countertop. A tower cabinet comes in handy in between two sink spaces–or add storage shelves next to the opposite ends of sinks.  Provide a space for those bath towels with elegant floating glass shelving.

Bathing Space Preferences

Let’s face it, Florida homeowners want nothing but coastal zen in their bathing space. Trends include large showers enclosed in glass and a separate free-standing bathtub with nearby shelving for de-stressing accessories– candles, wine, and bath oils.

Measure the space before you go and look for that perfect tub. Stand-alone bathtub faucets in gold tones are popular in the main bathrooms, although it’s acceptable in these times to use mixed metals–all based on personal preference.

Another increasingly popular trend, matte black is a bold and powerful color, easily striking and visibly noticeable. With matte finishes, dirt and dust are not visible, and the material is not easily permeable. Finish the look with a cute chandelier above the tub.

Some homeowners may not be utilizing their current bathtub. Therefore, the added space could be utilized in creating a bigger two-person shower with a nice integrated bench and either two shower heads or an option of a rain shower head and a separate handheld shower with a grab bar. Real estate experts are in agreement, though, that there should be at least one bathtub in the home for better resale value.

Tile Walls

Let’s look at two: one is implementing large colorful tiles, and the other is classic marble. Lately, the look that was and seems to continue taking the world by storm–and not just Florida– is the marble look, whether that is really more costly marble or more affordable ceramic and porcelain tile that has that marble appearance. Nevertheless, this white with gray veins pattern has popped up in new custom homes as well as remodels.

An accent wall provides a centralized location for your bathroom, also serving as a focal point for your vanity or your bathtub, whichever you wish to highlight. As the name suggests, it is a wall in your bathroom that is made from a different material or color to contrast against the rest of your bathroom.

Popular choices are marble, mosaic tile, natural stone, and even wood. Aqua tones can bring a calm and dream-like quality to any space and pair well with nature, with an emphasis on sea and sky themes.

Another classic beauty that will never go out of style is white subway tile for your shower–yet stacked in non-traditional ways–vertical, horizontal straight stack, or herringbone. Choose a coordinating contrast tile in gray or blue for the niche and shower pan.

And don’t forget to add adequate LED shower lighting. Want something more custom? There are a wide variety of textured tiles, including glass which will add some artsy pizzazz, especially for other en suites in the home.

Water Closets

Some larger homes now have space to feature separate, enclosed water closets– why? To eliminate waiting time is one main reason, but the other is that a bidet has now become a more popular product to include in your bathroom.

We can also call them Smart Toilets. Not everyone has the required space for these additions–however, a bidet, aka smart toilet, has various functions and has been trending upward over the last few years.

Mirrors and Accessories

Even though there are trends, homeowners need to really evaluate their needs and merge design with how they want their bathroom to function. If you have a lot of vanity stuff–makeup, hair products, etc.–you’ll need to be sure your contractor can design space to include serious cabinet storage to eliminate counter clutter. There are beautiful designs–both modern and traditional that will offer ample storage.

LED mirrors seem to be popping up in at least one bathroom remodel in every home. These come in different sizes and dimming possibilities. These are perfect for getting faces prepared and adding that final modernized, sleek look. Have your contractor build in A/C power behind the mirrors for function. Sconces are popular as well in between two beautiful mirrors.

Now, top off your zen vibe with plants. Even just a small plant on the countertop can make the area more vibrant and alive. And perhaps a heated towel bar!
